about

After the successful second studio album “Freedom For All”, which was released on May 13, 2022 including an extremely extensive back catalogue and reached number 1 in the scene-relevant German Alternative Charts (DAC) in July 2022, Projekt Ich from Rosenheim / Germany releases with “Jesus Doesn’t Want Me For A Sunbeam” the first title of a series of singles featuring cover versions of songs that have inspired mastermind Ulf Müller since his youth and have accompanied him to this day, on German indie label Echozone.

This time, Ulf was able to get the vocal support of Richard Pustina (Radio DCS, Ottoextrem, Boyracer Records) from Vienna / Austria who already participated in the song “Your Life Is A Lie” from the latest album “Freedom For All”.

"Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam" is a song originally recorded by the Scottish alternative band The Vaselines from Glasgow and is considered a parody of the old Christian children's song "I'll Be A Sunbeam" with the opening line "Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam" (Source: Wikipedia). The song was featured on the band's “Dying For It” EP in 1988 released on 53rd & 3rd Records.

The late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain loved The Vaselines' music and repeatedly cited them as one of his biggest influences. Not least because of this, Nirvana covered several songs by this band ("Son Of A Gun" and "Molly's Lips"). "Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam" can be found as "Jesus Doesn't Want Me For A Sunbeam" on the wonderful album “MTV Unplugged in New York”; it was precisely this version that inspired Ulf to cover this song.

Als Sänger konnte Ulf, wie schon beim Song "Your Life Is A Lie" vom letzten Album "Freedom For All", Richard Pustina (Radio DCS, Ottoextrem, Boyracer Records) aus Wien / Österreich engagieren.

Das Original „Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam“ stammt von der schottischen Alternative-Band The Vaselines aus Glasgow und gilt als Parodie auf das alte christliche Kinderlied "I'll Be A Sunbeam" mit der Eröffnungszeile „Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam“ (Quelle: Wikipedia).
